my time – 9 something (?/?)

*As you can tell, the final results have yet to come out yet and I will update this as soon as they do.  Placing 16th in the first two events put me in 10th place overall going into the final event.  This was cool because I got to compete in the final heat for the males and have my name announced.

I had a lot of fun at the event and felt I was semi-lucky with what came out of the hopper considering there were no pullups or running.  The first event was a rough one, but I was able to do well because I only had to break up the OHS once (on the final 9) and I managed the work.  The bastards really took it out of you and I watched literally everyone burn out during the first 21.  When it was my turn I paced the bastards and was able to maintain the pace the entire time and actually was able to pick up my pace on the final 9.  I also never went to failure on the pushups, only doing 5 at a time and therefore never broke them into anything less than 3.

The deadlift event was a blast.  When warming up, I went after 405 and it felt pretty light so I knew I had some room to move.  My previous 1RM going into that event was 420, and I couldn’t believe it when I did 425 twice so easily.  447.5 is what I pulled on my third attempt.  Jon and I wore a belt which takes some stress away from keeping the lower back tight and allows you to focus more effort on pulling the weight off the ground.  We also lifted it “Lance Mosely” style by just walking up to the bar and picking the damn thing up.

The third and final event was brutal.  I started off a little nervous and fumbled on my double unders which cost me a couple seconds.  The back squats were easy and I moved onto the GHD’s.  I broke the GHD’s up just a bit because I wanted to save some midline stability for the snatches.  I ended up going with the split snatch because for reps, 135 is definitely heavy.  I hit all 7 snatch attempts but split snatching is much slower than power so I was behind the pack going into the wallballs.  I kind of fell apart on wallballs or as Jon would say, “lacked mental toughness” and broke those up more than I would’ve liked.  On the push jerk I went behind the neck and knocked them out pretty easily.  Wrapping it up with toes to bar was just torture.  I kipped the first three before my midline completely went which left the remaining 27 to be done in singles.

Overall I’m pretty happy with my peformance, as noted before, I hadn’t done a met-con in about 20 days and had increased my bodyweight by about 11-13 lbs.  However, this event did not challenge a longer time domain for a met-con so its hard to tell how much I’ve lost due to the GOMAD.

Back to GOMAD and starting strength tomorrow.
